Left fielder Evan Gattis had 2 base hits as the Atlanta Braves outscored the
Washington Nationals 1 to 0.
Mike Minor(1-0) gave Atlanta a solid outing. He didn't give up much, just 4
hits and 2 walks in 7 innings. Minor mowed down 8 Washington batters.
Washington threatened in the 9th but Atlanta was able to put down the rally.
Craig Kimbrel recorded the save, his 1st. Gio Gonzalez(0-1) was the losing
pitcher. Davey Johnson was in a sour mood after the game. 'Even you guys up
in the press box know why we lost this game. We made too many mistakes.'

October 3, 2013: Braves 1 Nationals 0 (Braves lead series, 1-0)
Mike Minor and Craig Kimbrel combine to shut out the Nationals in the opening game of their NLDS. The Nationals loaded the bases off Kimbrel in the 9th, but pinch hitter Adam Laroche struck out to end the game. The lone Braves run, the winning run, came in the 4th when Brian McCann singled immediately following an Evan Gattis double.
