October 2, 2013: Orioles need extra innings to beat the Rays, 3-2, for the AL wild card

The Orioles drew first blood with a 3rd inning run on 3 singles, then the Rays took a 2-1 lead in the 7th on a Sean Rodriguez single and back-to-back doubles from Wil Myers and James Loney. The Rays brought in closer Fernando Rodney early to get the last 2 outs in the 8th, but it may have backfired as he struggled in the 9th and gave up the tying run on a Nate McLouth single following a Chris Davis double.

The score was deadlocked until the 12th, when Nick Markakis cracked a solo homer to give the O's the lead. That was all closer Jim Johnson needed, as he got the 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning to send the Rays back to the locker room to pack for the off-season. The Orioles will pack for a trip to Boston, where the Red Sox await. The Red Sox won the season series between the two teams, 11-8.
