The save went to Rafael Soriano, but the real save should go to either Fernando Abad or Drew Storen. Abad entered in the 6th with no outs, bases loaded, tying run at the plate. He struck out Matt Carpenter and got Carlos Beltran to ground into an inning-ending double play. Abad stayed out for the 7th but gave way to Craig Stammen with one out and a runner on 1st. Stammen got the 2nd out on a fielder's choice, but then allowed a double, a walk and a single to score a run and load the bases. Storen entered with the tying run at 1st and the go ahead run at the plate, and got pinch hitter Pete Kozma to ground out.
The Nats scored all 6 runs on 4 homers, including an inside the park one from Steve Lombardozzi. Jayson Werth had a solo shot and Ian Desmond had a 2-run homer in the 4th, and Wilson Ramos added a 2-run blast in the 6th.

WEB GEMS- Bot 5th: Denard Span robbed Matt Holliday of an extra base hit.
Right fielder Jayson Werth blasted a homerun as the Washington Nationals beat
the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 6 to 5.
Washington came up with 3 runs in the top of the 4th inning. The big moment
was provided by Ian Desmond who deflated the crowd as he bombed a two-run
dinger. St. Louis had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up
short.
Jordan Zimmermann(2-0) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 5 innings.
Zimmermann got help from Rafael Soriano who earned his 4th save. The loss
was charged to Lance Lynn(0-1). He served up 4 homeruns in his 5 and 2/3
innings.
'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' Zimmermann
said, 'this was one of those times.'
